About Kedarnath 


Kedarnath is a holy town located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters above sea level and is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus. The town is located on the banks of river Mandakini and is surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks.

How to reach:


By Air:
The nearest airport to Kedarnath is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun located at a distance of 251 km.

By Train: The nearest railway station to Kedarnath is Rishikesh railway station located at a distance of 216 km.
By Road: Kedarnath can be reached through road from different parts of Uttarakhand. One can take buses or hire taxis from places like Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Uttarkashi.

Kedarnath Temple:
The main attraction of Kedarnath is the famous Kedarnath temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the temple was built by the Pandavas during the Mahabharata era.


Vasuki Tal:
Vasuki Tal is a serene lake located at an altitude of 4,150 meters above sea level. It is a popular trekking destination and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.


Gandhi Sarovar: Gandhi Sarovar is a beautiful lake located at a distance of 3 km from Kedarnath. It is named after Mahatma Gandhi who visited the place during his journey to Kedar valley.


Shankaracharya Samadhi:
Shankaracharya Samadhi is the final resting place of Adi Shankaracharya, the famous Hindu philosopher and theologian.


Gauri Kund: Gaurikund is the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath. It is located at an altitude of 1,950 meters above sea level and is a popular stopover for pilgrims traveling to Kedarnath.

Best time to visit:

The best time to visit Kedarnath is from May to June and from September to November. The weather during these months is pleasant and perfect for sightseeing and trekking. The temple remains closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall in the region.
